The record
Destroyed by an SS division on 10 June 1944. De Gaulle ordered the ruins preserved untouched as a permanent memorial; a new village was built adjacent. The burnt-out cars and sewing machines remain where they were.

A note on the approach rather than the site: the obvious track is not the right one. Locals were friendly and pointed us at the longer route, which is longer for a reason. Take the long one.
