Went in at first light with two others. The main hall is more intact than the photos suggest — the collapse everyone posts about is confined to the east wing. Floor is sound if you stay on the joists. We were out in ninety minutes and saw nobody.

The record
Established in 1928 to secure rubber for Ford's tyres, complete with clapboard houses, fire hydrants and a mandated diet. Blight and worker revolts defeated it; Ford sold it back to Brazil in 1945 at a loss of some $20 million, never having visited.
The oracle
You smell it before you see it — wet concrete, iron, something older. Fordlândia does not announce itself. What registers first is scale — the structure is larger inside than the approach prepares you for, and colder.
Someone has been here recently. The dust says so, and says nothing else. The known history covers perhaps two thirds of what you are standing in. Beyond that the record thins into municipal paperwork and hearsay, and then into nothing at all.
Every account of the place agrees on the layout and disagrees on the exit. At danger level 3 of 5, the honest advice is that the place deserves more caution than curiosity usually allows.
Site reconstruction
Walk inside Fordlândia
You arrive outside. Orbit the site, fly over it or walk the grounds, then go in — four fragments of this site's record are scattered through the structure, and your torch runs down the whole time.
Generated from this site's record — a abandoned of its scale and condition. Its character, not its surveyed floor plan.

Permit came through in about two weeks. Guide was excellent and let us set up properly rather than herding us. Worth doing it the legitimate way — you get access to the lower level, which the fence-hoppers never see.

Reminder that this one is genuinely protected, not just fenced. Fines are real.
Whoever wrote this dossier has clearly been. The hazard list is exactly right.
Been on my list for six years. Every time I get close, the weather turns.
The AI mythos is a bit much for me but the timeline is solid.
